German edition of the book "Tevu'ot Ha'Aretz" by Rabbi Joseph Schwarz. Includes five lithographic plates: frontispiece portrait of the author; panoramic view of Jerusalem (folding plate); and two plates with illustrations of the Temple Mount and Western Wall, Bethlehem, and the Cave of the Patriarchs.
Joseph Schwarz's book was translated into German by his nephew, Dr. Israel Schwarz. The German edition was required reading in Jewish schools in Germany, where it was used as a textbook. In recognition of his accomplishment, Schwarz was awarded a medal of honor by Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I.
XIX, 452, 20 pp. + [5] plates (two folding plates), 20.5 cm. Good condition. Stains to plates. Panoramic view clean and in good condition. Tear to map, restored. Few tears and minor damage, most of it professionally restored. Original binding, restored.
