Three detailed and interesting postcards on which are photographs from the Jewish market in the city of Opole in Silesia, Poland. Written on the photgraphs in Polish handwriting is the name of the city and a description of the picture.
The city's famous cathedral appears in the background of two of the postcards.
On one of the postcards are many Jewish children busy with their daily routine, and on two other postcards we see lots of activity, Jews hurrying to their destinations.
At the beginning of the 20th century there were approximately 4000 Jews in Opole, and they were two thirds of the city's population. The city's Jews earned a living (from the 18th century) mainly from petty trading and peddling, and their main income was from market and sale days such as the one which is seen on the postcards.
Almost all of the Jews of Opole were murdered in the Holocaust by the Nazis.
The postcards give us a glimpse into the Jewish experience in a small village in Poland, which used to be and is no more.
Condition: Very Good.
