During the Dreyfus affair and Dreyfus' trials, many postcards were issued in his favor and against him. These postcards became the central propaganda tool in the Affair.
The postcards before us depict various figures and events related to the Affair. Among others:
A. Postcard with the picture of Emil Zola, who wrote the "J'accuse" (I accuse) which helped Dreyfus' acquittal, of Dreyfus' attorney and of Major Esterhazy, the French traitor.
B. Postcard with a picture of Esterhazy bribing the jusge.
C. Postcard with the mysterious figure from Emil Zola's poems "la dam voile" (the veiled woman).
Seven numbered postcards belong to one series called "Affiaire Dreyfus" which was issued in Venice (postcards 3, 6, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11).
One postcard belongs to a series called "Affiaire Zola-Esterhazy".
One postcard (that was issued in Berlin after Dreyfus was sent to Devil's Island) depicts Dreyfus' figure and the island to which he was sent and the sentence "la verite ets en marche" (Truth in Process).
