Mein Blaues Klavier – Else Lasker-Schüler – Jerusalem, 1943 - Numbered Copy
Mein Blaues Klavier, Neue Gedichte [My Blue Piano, New Poems], by Else Lasker-Schüler. Jerusalem: Jerusalem Press Ltd., 1943. German. First edition. Copy no. 74 of 330.
"My Blue Piano", Else Lasker-Schüler's (1869-1945) last book of poems, was published during her lifetime, several years after she escaped from Nazi Germany and immigrated to Palestine. Lasker-Schüler dedicated "My Blue Piano" "To my dear friends in the cities of Germany – and to those, who like myself, were expelled and are now scattered around the world, faithfully!" (German. Printed at the beginning of the book). Her illustration for the front cover of the book, in which she depicted herself among a group of friends, is titled "Saying Goodbye to Friends".
The book was published by Dr. Moshe Spitzer's Tarshish publishing house, employing the publisher’s typically outstanding quality and design (the name of the publishing house, however, is not mentioned in the book).
45, [1] pp, 21.5 cm. Good condition. A few stains. Slightly faded binding, with minor stains. The spine is missing (as typical of all copies of the book). Inked stamps on the endpapers and the title page.
