Sefer Amudei Golah, Cremona 1556. Bound With Sefer Tashbetz - Customs of MaHaram MiRuttenberg, Cremona 1556. First Edition. Beautiful Copies In Mint Condition.

Two rare works bound in one volume, both in mint, pristine condition. The first work consists of Sefer Sefer Amudei Golah - Semak, which is the first Hebrew book to be printed in Cremona. The second work consists of Sefer Tashbetz, an extremely rare work, also printed in Cremona. 

Sefer Amudei Golah - Sefer Mitzvos Katan, authored by R. Yitzchak of Corbiel, one of the 13th century Tosafists. The work's official title is Amudei Golah, and is written in the form of a poem. It is divided into 7 “pillars”, each corresponding to the seven days of the week. In his introduction he asks “every man to read one pillar each day”. It includes Halachic, Aggadic and Mussar sources. 

Sefer Tashbetz, first edition. This rare work documents the customs of R. Meir of Ruttenberg - MaHaram MiRutneberg, and was compiled by his disciple, R. Shimshon ben R. Tzadok, hence the name Tashbetz, which serves as an acronym for his name. This work is particularly important and is cited by many of the Poskim, including the Beis Yosef. It was compiled during the seven years MaHaram was in prison; R. Shimshon would visit frequently, and it was during this time these practices were recorded. Interestingly, wherever a specific custom differs from common practice, additional comments were added by R. Peretz of Corbiel citing the differences.

An ancient ownership inscription from the period of the printing is seen on title page. On verso is a 2-line small inscription citing several verses, also from the period of printing.

Two works bound in one; Amudei Golah is complete with the rare leaf of errata and final 4 leaves, which are lacking in many copies. Some light stains to final leaves of Sefer Tashbetz. Edges are tinted red and green, which is typical of the era. Bound in a beautiful binding made of wood and leather, from the period of the printing, with clasps. Both clasps are intact and original, a rare phenomenon for Hebrew books.
