********************************
The righteous genius Rabbi Amram Yishai Segal Bilitzer (passed away in 1889), one of the great rabbis of Hungary, served as Av Beit Din and head of the yeshiva in Szerencs. He was a distinguished disciple of Rabbi Chaim Sofer, author of Machaneh Chaim, who mentions him with great affection in some of his responsa. He also spent time in the presence of the holy Rebbi Chaim of Sanz, author of Divrei Chaim, who also refers to him in his responsa. His son, Rabbi Pinchas Bilitzer, succeeded him in the holy office.
The renowned genius Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Adler, Av Beit Din of Farrah and author of Darkei Chaim (1815–1918), was one of the great scholars and kabbalists of Hungary, widely known for his humility and holiness. He was born in Ungvar on Rosh Chodesh Sivan 1863 and was orphaned at the age of six. Despite a life of poverty and deprivation, he studied Torah with great dedication and purity at the yeshiva of his teacher, the esteemed Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Mannheimer, Av Beit Din of Ungvar. He also received rabbinic ordination from the great Rabbi, the Beit Naftali of Mad.
In 1887, Rabbi Adler married the daughter of the righteous Rabbi Amram Yishai Bilitzer, of blessed memory, Av Beit Din of Szerencs. Rabbi Adler did not desire to take on the burden of a rabbinic position but wished to devote himself entirely to Torah study. However, due to financial difficulties caused by his wife’s business ventures in 1889, he was appointed as the rabbi of Medisoy, and later as Av Beit Din of Farrah In 1896, he established a large yeshiva where he was occupied with the wisdom of Kabbalah.
Rabbi Adler’s works include Darkei Chaim on Rashi’s commentary on the Tanach, and Darkei Chaim on Tractates Eruvin and Bava Metzia. On the 25th of Sivan 1918, his soul departed in holiness and purity while reciting the phrases "You uproot everything, You are the foundation of everything, You are the root of everything." His writings include Darkei Chaim on the Torah and Talmud, as well as remedies and healing techniques (referenced in Melitzei Esh and Shem HaGedolim Me’eretz Hagar).
"...An exceptional genius in both the revealed and hidden aspects of Torah, who concealed his ways. He was a great and awe-inspiring kabbalist, who practiced self-affliction through fasts and observed many stringencies, becoming a sacred vessel of holiness..."
(From Rabbi A. Stern, *Melitzei Esh*).
