Printed during the lifetime of the holy author!
This edition is the last published by the author and is the most corrected version. See Levush, Zikhron Aharon edition (Introduction, page 2).
The author, Rabbeinu Mordechai Yaffe (1525–1612), was one of the greatest Jewish leaders, a student of the Rama (Rabbi Moses Isserles), and one of the leaders of the Council of Four Lands. He served in prominent rabbinical positions of his generation, including in Prague, Lublin, Grodno, and Poznań.
His set of seforim, Levushim, is foundational, and many commentaries have been written on them over the generations, including Eliyah Rabba and Eliyah Zuta, annotations by Rabbi Avraham Azulai, author of Chesed L’Avraham, Malbushei Yom Tov by the author of Tosafot Yom Tov, and others.
Annotations and Signatures:
In the Orach Chayim section: On page 86/2 (Siman 253, Se'if 2), three words were added in handwriting [by the author?], which were included in later editions, and also on page 147/a (Siman 523, Se'if 3).
Throughout the volume, there are many letter notations marking the simanim of the sefer Eliyahu Zuta.
In the Yoreh De'ah section: On page 17 (Siman 50, Se'if 2), it originally states, “Everything we said about it, if removed, is treif if already missing, ” and the proofreader added the word “created, ” which was missing. This correction does not appear in printed Levush seforim and might be in the author's own handwriting!
In the Even HaEzer section: There is an Eastern signature, "Yitzchak Waknin, " and an inscription, "I sold and then repurchased from the heirs of the honorable Rabbi Rahamim M... of blessed memory." Additional notations and Torah insights are found on the margin of the title page.
