Large Historical Collection from the Froidiger-Obuda Family of Rabbis and Activists - Budapest, late 18th Century - Early 20th Century

Large historical collection, imporatnt, varied and fascinating. Letters and notebooks handwritten by the famed rabbis and activists of the Froidiger-Obuda Family of Budapest, late 18th Century - Early 20th Century.

Background: the Froidiger family was a famed family of rabbis, industrialists and activists in Budapest in the century before the Holocaust. The father of the family was the Gaon Rabbi Pinchas Leib Frodiger-Obuda, Rav of Obuda, one of the three towns forming Budapest.

His son, Rabbi Moshe Froidiger, had a rabbinic Semicha, yet did not want to earn his living from it and was one of the leading industrialists of Budapest and one of the founders of its orthodox community. Author of Moshe Yedaber.

Rabbi Moshe represented the Jewish community before Emperor Franz Joseph and was even knighted by him.

Many sons and grandsons of the Froidiger family were famed public activists including Rabbi Pinchas David (Phillip) Froidiger, who was a famed Jewish activist during the Holocaust.

This important collection was, apparently, part of the archiv e of Rabbi Naftali Froidiger, who immigrated to Israel in the 1940s.

The important collection contains notebooks and leaves with Divrei Torah and letters by varied rabbis. Please refer to Hebrew catalog text for a partial list of items included in this collection.

Sizes vary. Mostly good condition.
