"לגלות ברבים את אשר החזקנו בסוד" Lengthy, Historical Letter Handwritten and Signed by Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis Rosh Av Beit Din of HaEidah HaChareidit

"והפראים לא יעיזו להרים יד" (May the savages not dare raise a hand) Lengthy, unique letter by Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis Rosh Av Beit Din of HaEidah HaChareidit, about the position of Rav in Jerusalem - Kalwaria, 1937.

Lengthy letter, with fascinating details about the the position of rav of the great Gaon author of Liflagot Reuven. In his letter, Rabbeinu informs Rabbi Moshe Blau, an activist of HaEidah HaChareidit, that he succeeded in appointing his son as his successor as Rav of Kalwaria "כי ת"ל...

The days were those of the 1936–1939 Arab Revolt and Rabbeinu ends his letter with the blessing: "והפראים לא יעיזו להרים יד ובמהרה תושע יהודה וישראל ישכון לבטח" (May the savages not dare raise a hand and Judah be saved speedily and Israel shall reside in safety).

The Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis (1864-1953) served as Rav in Kalwaria, Belarus and then as Gaon Av Beit Din of the Charedi community in Jerusalem. He authored LiPalgut Reuven and more. Among his disciples were Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach and Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv.

Was a famed Gaon. It is told that his in-law wanted to know whether all that was said of him was true so he sent a letter to the Rav of the Kollel, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef, who was then living in Vilna and who replied: "ולדעתי יהיה מגאוני הזמן - ויתר הדברים אוכל להודיעו כי בפה ווילנא היו רוצים בו גדולי הרבנים דפה".
