Silver Spice Container of Rabbi Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Schwadron Author of 'Minchat Yitzchak' – the 19th Century
Special, Rare Silver Spice Container, which had belonged to Rabbi Yitzchak Hacohen Schwadron, one of the geniuses of Jerusalem.
On the flag of the tower, an engraving of the Hebrew year and "Yitzchak Cohen Schwadron".
Silver (has been examined, not marked). Circa the middle of the 19th century. Fermany/Poland.
The container stands on three stems. Spherical container for the spices with engravings and holes for spreading the smell of the spices in the upper lid. Connected by a mast with screwing. On its upper end, two flags and an engraving: "Yitzchak Schwadron"; "651 (1891)".
Rabbi Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Schwadron (1856-1919) was a rabbi in Galicia. In 1903, he immigrated to the land of Israel and settled in Jerusalem. He was one of the rabbis who studied at the Kabbalistic Yeshiva "Sha'ar Ha'Shamayim". He authored commentaries on the Tosefta "Minchat Yitzchak" and "Shirei Mincha", on Seder Zeraim, Moed, Nashim and Nezikin. He edited and proofread the writings of his father the Maharsham of Brzeżany. His wife was pious and scholarly and some of her novellae on the Talmud were printed.
Among his children is "the Jerusalemite Maggid" Rabbi Shalom Schwadron.
