Letter by Rebbe Ya'akov Yisrael V'Yeshurun Rubin of Reghin (Sasregen)
Leaf with two letters handwritten and signed by R. Ya'akov Yisrael V'Yeshurun Rubin. Reghin (Romania), 1935.
On recto of the leaf is a letter authorizing his wife to arrange a match for their son R. Yosef Meir: "I hereby, authorize the Rebbetzin… to arrange the match of my son Yosef Meir… 1935… Ya'akov Yisrael V'Yeshurun". On verso is another handwritten letter with his signature and stamp, written a few months later on Dec. 8, 1935 expressing his wonder that he did not yet receive a letter (apparently, from a family member) and requests that they promptly write him.
R. Ya'akov Yisrael V'Yeshurun Rubin (1885-1944, Encyclopedia L'Chassidut, Vol. 2, p. 312) descendant of the Ropshitz dynasty. Ordained for the rabbinate by the Maharsham of Brzeżany and the author of Arugot HaBosem before the age of twenty. In 1907, he was appointed Rabbi in Solitsa. During WWI, he relocated to Reghin and was appointed rebbe of the Zhydachiv Chassidism. The rebbe, his wife Rebbetzin Alte Nechama Malka and a number of their children perished in Auschwitz in Sivan 1944. Surviving remnants of his writings were printed in the book Or Yesha, NY 1974, titled Gilyonei Yosher. His son R. Yosef Meir, mentioned in the letter, served as rebbe in his father's lifetime in Valea lui Mihai (Mihayfolvo). Died in Theresienstadt after the liberation in Sivan 1945.
