Shaarei Shevuot – Basel, 1602

Shaarei Shevuot, attributed to R. Yitzchak son of Reuven of Barcelona. [Basel: Konrad Waldkirch, 1602].

Rare edition, apparently appended to the Rav Alfas edition in 1602 (mentioned by Steinschneider, see lot 74 of this catalog). Shaarei Shevuot was first printed in Krakow in 1597. The colophon on the last page of this copy (slighty damaged) is identical to the Krakow edition.

The present copy does not have a title page (it is not known whether it was originally printed with a title page), and is identified by the colophon on the final leaf, which contains the place and year of printing.
Bound with (before Shaarei Shevuot): Ayelet Ahavim, by R. Shlomo di Oliveyra Rabbi of Amsterdam. Amsterdam: David de Castro Tartas, [1665]. First edition.
Shaarei Shevuot: 56 leaves (without title page). May be lacking title page. Ayelet Ahavim: 42 [i.e.: 32], [2] leaves. 14 cm. Good condition; several leaves in fair condition. Stains, including dampstains. Worming. Tears. Open tears to several leaves of Shaarei Shevuot, with damage to text on four leaves, repaired in part with paper. Inscriptions. Old binding.
