Unique Silver Spice Container – Most Likely Spain, circa the Late 18th Century – Extremely Rare
Rectangular box shaped as a sofa with a rounded corner and a base on four talons. On its upper part, a lion on a raised platform.
A lid for inserting the spices with a shell-like handle.
The sides of the box are decorated with two parallel rows of Acanthus leaves.
Six square departments.
Around the box, an engraving: "Baruch Atah … Boreh Minei Besamim".
On the lid, an engraving "Shemah, Shadai, Shabbat Shalom" – the Hebrew letter "ש" is large and shared by all the words.
Marked silver (in two places – on the lid and on the box itself. Ancient, worn European stamps, which we could not decipher precisely).
Source: private collection. Was brought to Israel approximately thirty years ago from Spain.
Length: 18 cm. Height: 8.5 cm. Width: 6.3 cm. Weight: approximately 400 gr.
