Engraving of Hakafot on Hoshana Rabbah at the Amsterdam Synagogue - Picart
Engraving of Jews encircling the bimah with the four species in their hands on Hoshana Rabbah, by Bernard Picart. 1724. 21 x 18 cm.
Bernard Picart (1663–1733) was a well-known French artist. The picture bears the inscription: “Procession des Palmes (Hoschana Rabah).” It is almost identical to another drawing of his, from the series of etchings he did for the four volume series “Ceremonies et Costumes Religieuses de tous les Peuples du Monde,” which also appears in Rubens, A Jewish Iconography, 1981, no. 447.
