MATA HARI: (1876-1917) Margaretha Geertruida Zelle. Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan, convicted of being a spy for Germany during World War I and executed by a firing squad in France. A good dark fountain pen ink signature ('Mata Hari') and a few additional words in her hand, in French, 'avec les remerciements pour votre admiration' (Translation: 'with thanks for your admiration') on an attractive 8vo sheet of printed stationery from the Hotel Bristol, dated Vienna, 10th January 1907, in her hand. Matted in cream and red above the original envelope hand addressed by Mata Hari to Lieutenant Oscar Sofer (?) in Vienna and framed and glazed to an overall size of 11 x 19. Some light creasing and a few minor ink blots, otherwise VG
Mata Hari performed in Vienna from 15th December 1906 to 16th January 1907 when she danced her 'Indian' act.
