LAVAL PIERRE: (1883-1945) French Politician, Prime Minister of France 1931-32 & 1935-36. He further served in Vichy´s Regime following France´s defeat in 1940, and as Head of Government 1942-44. After the Liberation of France, Laval was arrested, accused of collaboration with the enemy in a trial full of faults, and executed by firing squad. T.L.S., `Pierre Laval´, one page, 8vo, Paris, 22nd February 1939, to Paul Brach at the Theatre des Bouffes Parisiens, in French. On the Senat printed stationery, Laval states in part `I thank you for your letter which you have kindly addressed to me. I do apologize for not following through the matter as I do not give a lecture.´ With blank integral leaf. VG
