A RARE MASONIC CUT-GLASS AMBER-STAINED GOBLET WITH SYMBOLIC IMAGERY, 19TH CEN.

An exquisite, amber-stained, cut-glass goblet with intricate engravings of natural motifs and Masonic imagery. The contrast created by the amber staining brings out the immense level of detail present in the engravings.

The initials 'Br. F. J.' can be found framed at the center of one side of the cup and probably represents the Masonic 'Brother' who was gifted the vessel. On the other side of the cup are a variety of objects, including, but not limited to, a square, compass, gavel, trowel, and level, all of which are important in Masonic ritual and symbology.

The dodecagonal stem flares outward as it extends forth from the bottom of the cup until it becomes the many-petaled flower shape of the foot. The foot is etched and stained and also has palm-like designs throughout. The decoration of the foot is not only for show but provides friction so that the cup does not slide around.

Bohemia - Mid 19th century.

H: 4 7/8 in., (12.4 cm.)

Condition: Very good with minor wear to finish on underside of cup, some minor chipping on underside.
