A HELLENISTIC GLASS SKYPHOS, CA. 1ST CENTURY BC
A Hellenistic glass skyphos dated to approximately the first century BC. The skyphos is of the characteristic shape with thumbholds affixed to the sides of the cup and a flared base. It is made entirely of glass with a beautiful iridescent sheen often seen in examples which were buried, having been caused by the chemical process undergone because of the soil.
