Tur with the Bach’s Commentary
Complete Four Volume Set.
First Edition
Cracow, 1631-1640
*

The Four volumes of the Tur with Bayis Chodosh the great commentary of Rabbi Yoel Sirkis Ab”d of Cracow, known as the Bac”h.

These four volumes were printed in Cracow over the course of 10 years. A complete set of the first edition Bach is an extremely rare treasure.

The comprehensive commentary of the Bac”h on the Tur is of the main foundational Halacha seforim, and was printed alongside the Bais Yosef in all subsequent editions until this day. His rulings are revered and acclaimed by all future poskim who extensively discuss his opinions.

The four volumes were printed as follows:
Choshen Mishpat: Cracow, 1631.
Yoreh Deah: Cracow, 1635.
Even Haezer: Cracow, 1638 .
Orach Chaim: Cracow 1639-1640.

Rabbi Yoel Sirkis (1561-1640) Av Bais Din of Cracow, of the greatest Achronim whose rulings are accepted and followed throughout klal yisroel. His sefer Bais Chodosh is of the fundamental sefarim in halacha.

The Bac”h passed away on the 20th of the month of Adar, 1640 during the printing of the last volume, the part of Orach Chaim.

The Minchas Elozor writes on the Bac”h “a pillar of light and fire, whos light shines from the heaven to earth”. The author of Tiferes Shlomo writes that he heard from the Admor Rabbi Dovid of Leluv that when the Bac”h passed away and ascended to heaven he was honored by the heavenly Bais Din to deliver a derasha, to which he agreed only if they cooled the fire of gehenom for 30 days (introduction to Shaar Hagilgulim, Permesula 1875).

Copy of the Yessod Yoseff
On the title page of volume of Orach Chaim presented here appears the handwritten signature of the holy gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Yosef Darshan of Posna, author of sefer Yesod Yosef (Frankfort 1669), the fundamental sefer on matters of kedusha and tahara which was published dozens of times over the generations.

His signature appears twice on the title page once at the top and once in the center.
Rabbi Yosef Darshan of Posna, author of Yesod Yosef (1601 - 1696) served as Dayan and Darshan in Posna for over thirty years. He was the talmid of the Tosfos Yom Tov in the revealed Torah and the talmid of Maharam Pappiras in Kabala.

At the top of the title page, beneath the Yesod Yosef's signature, there is another signature, “ Aryeh Leib". Which is most likely the handwritten signature of the Yesod Yosef son, the Kadosh Rabbi Aryeh Leib Hy”d Ab”d of Feizer and Samtar near Posna and later filled the position of his father as Dayan in Posna.

Following a blood libel against the Jews that occurred in Posna in 1737 he was horribly tortured and killed, gloriously sanctifying Hashem's name. To remember his name the community of Posna would mention his name regularly with the “kel molei rachamim'' prayer. (see introduction to Amudei Olam (Berlin 1741) and sefer Toar Pnei Shlomo (Krotoshin 1870) by his grandson Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Landesburg Dayan of Posna p.40). His writings were compiled and published in sefer Kisvei HaKadosh (Bnei Brak 1990).

Condition: restorations to slight damage on the margin the first two and last pages of Orach Chaim and Yoreh Deah and the last two pages of Even HaEzer, otherwise in very good condition.

A beautiful impressive 4 volume set bound in new ornate leather bindings.
Stefansky Sifrey Yesod #155
