Six issues of the French newspaper LE GRELOT - large antisemitic illustrations on the title pages of the issues. Various years between 1878-1892.

On the title pages of the issues before us are caricatures mocking the long-nosed Jew who controls French money, exploits the weaknesses of the state for his personal benefit, and exploits the strategic weaknesses of France to gain an advantage.

LE GRELOT - a French satirical newspaper, originally republican and anti-clerical. Written by Arnold Mortier and published from 1871 to 1903. Each issue included four pages and featured a large color caricature on the title page. It was a republican and anti-communard newspaper that was subject to numerous lawsuits by censorship. The main designers were: Bertal, Henri Demarea, Alfred Le Petit, Hector Moloch, and Pepin. The newspaper initially took distinctly republican stances and over the years clearly became more reactionary, antiדemitic, anti-Freemasons, and anti-clerical. Since its establishment in 1871, Le Grelot published about 2,000 issues.

Six complete issues. [Four pages in each issue]. 48x34 cm. Minor tears to margins of some issues. Overall good condition.
