Dancing through Darkness - The miraculous story of survival of the last Dutch survivor from the Sobibor death camp - signed copy by the author

Dancing through Darkness When love and dreams survived a nazi death camp - by Ann Markham Walsh, published by Dunham Books 2013 - Signed copy by the author.

The diary of Dutch Jew Saartje Wijnberg, prisoner at Sobibor extermination camp. In April 1943 Wijnberg was sent to Sobibor along with some 2000 other prisoners when she was not yet 21. After three days and nights of starvation during transport she arrived at the camp, where the SS commanders ordered her to dance with Engel  MeBrodzev from Poland for their amusement, humiliating the new arrivals. Thanks to that forced dance the fates of the two became intertwined as they struggled side by side against the cold, hunger, camp diseases. They escaped together in the "great escape" from the camp and hid in the forests for nine months. Wijnberg is the last surviving Dutch Sobibor prisoner. She documented her experiences from 1943 onward in her diary, which serves as the basis for the fascinating account before us, detailing her difficult stay in the camp's horrors, the escape, and the departure to freedom.
