Program for the antisemitic film "The Rothschilds". Berlin, 1940.

Program for the anti-Semitic feature film Die Rothschilds -  directed by Erich Waschneck. Published by "Illustrierter Film-Kurier" Berlin, 1940.

In the fall of 1938, the Ministry of Propaganda asked German film production companies to produce films with a clear anti-Semitic message. The office provided the requested subjects: 'The global Jewish connection', and the theory of race in a practical way. The intention was to present to the German audience the ideas that would prepare their hearts to accept the final solution as a solution to a real existential problem that threatens them from the side of the Jews. In the late summer and fall of 1940, the most aggressive films against the Jews were released. Two feature films "The Rothschilds" directed by Erich Vaschen, and "The Jewish Zis" directed by Faith Harlan. At the same time, a so-called "Documentary" called "The Eternal Jew" directed by Fritz Hippler was released, which was intended to be screened shortly after the release of the first two. The timing of the release of the films was not coincidental and was well planned by the Nazi Propaganda Ministry, each film conveyed a harsher message than the previous one, with the most violent being the last documentary in the series "The Eternal Jew" which conveyed the message in a direct anti-Semitic way without having to hide behind a message hiding in a narrative message.

The film 'The Rothschilds' was both anti-Semitic and anti-British. The film used the historical background of the Napoleonic Wars to present the cunning of the Rothschild banker family and their financial control, thereby demonstrating the danger of the Jew who controls the economy of countries through money. The Rothschilds are described as having made their fortune by sucking the blood of the Germans, and Britain is presented as a sinking society under the total control of the Jews. The last scene shows a Star of David in flames placed over a map of Great Britain. The film was originally shot in Germany and Austria and the role of Meir Rothschild, the patriarch of the Rothschild family, is played by the actor Ferdinand Marian.

The program before us opens with a scene in which members of the Rothschild family are seen consulting against the background of a world map. Its contents include many photos of scenes from the film, as well as a summary of the plot with the threatening message: "Rothschild victory, victory for the Star of David."
