"Something of spiritual value, and not shishlik and kabab" An important letter on the subject of Palestinian refugees and people from the Eastern community by Yitzhak Navon
A long and important letter in the handwriting and signature of Yitzhak Navon while serving as Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, in which he addresses the claim of Palestinian refugees, as well as to the planning of the tone of a special conference on Moroccan and North African Jewry. 8/10/1975.
In his letter, which was written to Shaul, Navon refers to various matters in the form of 'comments' in preparation for a conference that would deal with various matters. Referring to the claim of the Palestinian refugees, Navon writes: "Regarding the stencil ... an important argument is missing: the Palestinian refugees are blame for their refuge. They started a war against us in 1947." Navon goes on to refer to the "conference program" that was deal with people from Eastern countries, and writes that the nature of the discussion at the conference should review North African immigration and its contribution to the settlement of the country, and it was very important to him that the conference be valuable and not cheap: "What is the "Mimuna sign"?
I do not like the name. Maybe "Ben Atar sign", "Alfasi sign", or "Orach Hayim signal". Something of spiritual value, not "shishlik and kabab" . Navon also offers to screening the film about the Immigration of Moroccan Jews, as well as some sacred songs that will be performed at a high level "And leave the Mughrabi band, not worth it", and adds that in order to honor the event, respectable lecturers must be brought in: "Do not forget North African lecturers from the country, intellectuals, such as Mordechai Shushan and others."
