A yellow badge of a Jew from the Holocaust - Budapest
A yellow badge of a Jew from Budapest during the Holocaust. Extremely rare.
The shape of the Hungarian badge consisted of two triangles sewn together without a background and without the caption "Jude".
In October 1942, the Germans demanded that the Jews of Hungary attach a yellow badge to their clothes, but the Prime Minister of Hungary, Kállay Miklós, who opposed the Nazis and the policy of the final solution, refused. However, on March 19, 1944, with the German occupation of Hungary, Kállay government was overthrown, and the first Jewish decision made by the new government, led by Döme Sztójay, on March 31, was the wearing of the yellow badge. The patch, a smooth yellow Star of David without a caption, was ordered by the Jews to sew to their clothes on the left side of the chest, at heart height so that it would stick out in a public place.
7x7 cm. ripping in the fabric threads. Good condition.
