Stock Exchange Ticker Tape Machine
Very nice circa 1890 Edison Universal model stock ticker made by the D&H Precision Tool Co. of Newark New Jersey. This machine made it possible for stock brokers to receive real time quotes in their offices rather than having to physically be at the Stock Exchange. Made of precision brass and steel parts and powered by electromagnetic coils, it is mounted on a black painted and pinstriped cast iron base with Western Union Telegraph Co. lettered on the front. The base sits on a custom made round cast aluminum base that is covered by a large glass dome. Overall measures 14.5" tall and 13" in diameter.
