ANTIQUE RUSSIAN ICON MOTHER OF GOD IN SILVER OKLAD
An antique 19th century Russian Orthodox icon of Smolensk Mother of God. The mixed media icon with egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood panel. The oval shaped icon features an embossed silver riza, or oklad. The backside of the icon is covered with velvet. The icon has a ring for hanging. Hallmark of 84 silver standard and makers marks are on the riza. Mother of God of Smolensk is a highly venerated Orthodox icon of Hodegetria iconography. The original icon dates back to the early 15th century. Russian Christian Religious Items and Collectibles. Total weight: 70 g.
