ATTR TO RALPH ALBERT BLAKELOCK AMERICAN OIL PAINTING
Attributed to Ralph Albert Blakelock, American, 1847 to 1919, an antique oil painting on canvas depicting a forest landscape. Unsigned. An original paper label of the West New York Art Gallery is on the backside. Ralph Albert Blakelock was a romanticist American painter known primarily for his landscape paintings related to the Tonalism movement. Ralph Blakelock is known for Luminous landscape and portrait painting. He was both a late exponent of the Hudson River School of painting and also of the American West. He also foreshadowed the romantic, visionary, and modern tendencies that marked the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries. One of a kind artwork.
