THEODOR SCHERER
(1889 - 1951) German divisional commander who against all odds held off over 2,000 Russian attacks at Cholm for 107 days and was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves. Scarce war-date S.P., 3.5 x 5.5 in. b/w, a bust profile in uniform by Hoffmann, signed at lower-right, adding date '1942'. Identifying inscriptions in pencil on the verso, else fine. Sold with a postcard, bearing a printed sketch of Scherer and his facsimile signature.
