Volume of issues of the 'Young Jewry' periodical from the Holocaust and post-Holocaust era - a periodical published for refugee children across Britain, including the Kindertransport children and the evacuated children - London, 1943-1946 Rare, content-rich issues, including an early report on the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and a festive issue in honor of the Allied victory over Nazi Germany Volume of rare issues of the 'Young Jewry' periodical, published by the Joint Emergency Committee for Jewish Religious Education in Great Britain, for refugee children across Britain housed in Leeds and Manchester, which at the time constituted central reception centers for these refugees and evacuees. Consecutive issues of the monthly that were published over approximately three years - from August 1943 to the early months of 1946. The monthly was published by The Joint Emergency Committee for Jewish Religious Education in Great Britain. This body was established upon the outbreak of the war to address the collapse of the institutionalized Jewish education system. This collapse stemmed from the mass evacuation operation of children from London and other central cities to remote and safer areas, due to fear of the German Blitz bombings. The booklets were specifically adapted and designated for the two populations of children uprooted from their homes and facing a shattered reality: The Kindertransport children (refugees from Europe): children and youth smuggled out of Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia without their parents, who arrived in Britain destitute, staying in hostels or with foster families. And the evacuated children, British-Jewish children evacuated from their homes in the bombed cities to the English countryside. Content-rich issues including an important, real-time early report on the Jewish uprising in the ghetto. Coverage of the Tehran Children affair, Youth Aliyah after the Holocaust, reports on Jewish soldiers in the British Army, and articles of encouragement and calls for the rehabilitation of Torah institutions and immigration (Aliyah) to the Land of Israel. Among the issues is the historic victory issue, printed in color and adorned with a cover combining a Star of David with British flags. The issue opens with an emotional editorial by Maurice Nathan: ”After six terrible years... the victory, for which we have suffered, struggled and prayed, has arrived... we can breathe freely again.” The issue devotes extensive space to the contribution of British Jewry to the eradication of Nazism, the dedication of the youth to study despite mass conscription, and Winston Churchill's warm support for the Jews and Zionism.
