Yidishe Shriftn, Warsaw, 1968 - the final volume of the periodical, which was discontinued when the publication of the journal was halted following the expulsion of the Jews from Poland in the course of an anti-Semitic campaign by the Communist government - during which Jews were fired from government jobs, the army, the party, the universities and the media, and their citizenship was revoked.
The Yiddish journal began to appear immediately after the war in Lodz, published by the Association of Jewish Writers and Journalists in Poland, and served as an important literary forum for a flourishing Yiddish culture that gained a place of honor in Poland after the war.
The journal has been published continuously since then until 1968, the year in which almost all Polish Jews emigrated from the community that remained after World War II.
Before us is the last volume of the periodical.
On the deportation from Poland in 1968:
In March 1968, under the guise of an anti-Zionist campaign, a well-organized anti-Semitic campaign was launched in Poland, during which Jews were fired from government jobs, the army, the party, the universities and the media, and their citizenship was revoked. Thousands of Jews left Poland as a result, and the community was virtually wiped out. With the fall of the Communist regime in 1989, there remained in Poland between 5,000 and 10,000 Jews, some of whom concealed their Jewishness.
Volumes 233-250, which appeared in 1967-1968.
