An object of holiness. The custom of the Rebbe of Belz for generations was to place straw (in Yiddish: stroi) at their feet on Yom Kippur, on which they used to stand for the duration of the day's prayers. After the end of the holy day, the Hasiddim would gather to grab from the straw even a small piece of the mat on which a tzaddik stood on the holiest day of the year and worshiped his Creator. As a Segula for preservation and sanctity. In front of us is a piece of the straw on which the holy tzaddik Rabbi Aharon of Belz stood.

The source of the straw Segula:

First, the custom stemmed from the cold weather, for the simple reason that they stood  to pray without shoes, and also to experience Yom Kippur, as appears in the rulings (Darkhi Moshe in the name of Mordechai) they used to give herbs in the synagogue to seperate between it and the floor because it is forbidden to prostate on the bare ground . In the days of World War I, the Rebbe Rabbi Mordechai of Bilgoria, the son of the Rebbe Rabbi Yishchar Dov of Belz, was vey sick, and his condition was very dangerous. At the end of Yom Kippur, his father came to visit him and brought with him a handful of the hay he stood on during the service of the holy day, and he said: "take this straw in your hands, place it under the pillow in front of you, I pray that you will be completely healed." Miraculously, he healed right away and he stood on his feet. From then Chassidim began to steal from the straw on which the Rebbe was standing in the Yom Kippur.

The Holy Rebbe Rabbi Aharon Rokah of Belz [1880-1957]: the son of the Rebbe Rabbi Issachar Dov of Belz and the grandson of the Rebbe Rabbi Yehoshua of Belz. He was known for his leadership in holiness and purity from with little eating and little sleep, to the point where he was called "Aharon the Holy of God". He was considered one of the great admorim, and it was said that even if he had been in previous generations he would have been considered a great Rebbe. From his childhood he was known for his great holiness and his diligence in Torah and Hasidism. He became known as a man of miracles.

חפץ של קדושה. מנהגם של אדמו"רי בעלזא לדורותיהם היה להניח למרגלותיהם קש (באידיש: שטרוי) ביום הכיפורים, עליו נהגו לעמוד משך תפילות היום, לאחר סוף היום הקדוש היו החסידים מצטופפים לחטוף מהקש ולו חתיכה קטנה מהמצע עליו עמד צדיק ביום הקדוש ביותר בשנה ועבד את בוראו, כסגולה לשמירה וקדושה. לפנינו חתיכה מהקש עליו עמד הצדיק הקדוש רבי אהרן מבעלזא זיע"א.

מקור סגולת השטרוי [קש]:

ראשית המנהג נבע מחמת הצינה מהסיבה הפשוטה שעמדו להתפלל ללא מנעלים, וכן להשתחוויות יום הכיפורים, כמופיע בפוסקים (דרכי משה סי' תרכ"א סק"ו בשם ה'מרדכי') דנוהגין ליתן עשבים בבית הכנסת להפסיק בינו לבין הרצפה משום דאסור לשטוח אפיים ארצה. בימי מלחמת העולם הראשונה נחלה האדמו"ר רבי מרדכי מבילגוריא בנו של האדמו"ר רבי ישכר דב מבעלזא, ומצבו היה מסוכן מאד, בצאת יום הכיפורים בא אביו לבקרו והביא עמו חופן מן התבן עליו ניצב בעבודת היום הקדוש, וכך אמר: "הא לך מן התבן הזה בידיך, הנח אותו תחת הכר שלמראשותיך, אני תפילה שיהיה לך רפואה שלימה" באורח פלא סרו ממנו החולי והמכאוב והוא קם על רגליו, מיני אז החלו חסידים לחטוף מן התבן עליו עמד הרבי ביו"כ. האדמו"ר הקדוש רבי אהרן רוקח מבעלז [תר"מ-תשי"ז]: בנו של האדמו"ר רבי יששכר דוב (המהרי"ד) מבעלז ונכדו של האדמו"ר רבי יהושע מבעלז. צדיק פלאי אשר גדולי האדמורי"ם בדורו סרו למרותו. נודע בהנהגותיו בקדושה ובטהרה מתוך פרישות מופלגת במיעוט אכילה ומיעוט שינה, עד שכונה "אהרן קדוש השם". נחשב כאחד מגדולי האדמו"רים, ואמרו עליו שגם אילו היה בדורות קדומים היה נחשב לחידוש. מילדותו נודע בקדושתו הרבה ועמלו בתורה ובחסידות. נודע כאיש מופת פלאי הסוכה ברוח הקודש.
