Kabbalistic Tikunim in the old settlement: two books - Selichot and Takanot - published by the "Holy Society Shovavim Ta"t" in Jerusalem - bound together - Jerusalem, 1874

1. The book "Selichot and and Prayers for Shovavim Ta"t, according to the customary practice of Jerusalem". Printed by the mashgichim of the holy group, Jerusalem, 1874. Printing Yitzhak [Gashtsinni] and his partner Yaakov David Slatki.

S. Halevi, No. 220. Very rare. Naturally, prayer books were preserved less than other books, due to their extensive use.

At the beginning of the book there is a long introduction on the importance of the prayers in the Shovavim, the matter of Tikun HaBrit, as well as various laws concerning this important subject, by Rabbi Moshe Nehemiah Kohaniu (Kahanov) of Haslavitz, the head of the Etz Haim yeshiva. He also added a commentary 'Iyun Tefila' on the piyut 'angels of mercy'.

In his introduction Rabbi Kohaniu wrote:

"And in particular for this time when, like the sparks of sunlight between clouds, we see in several matters an opening in the matter of redemption..." In this fascinating introduction, there is a very extensive explanation of the city of Jerusalem according to the Torah of the Secret. Later in the introduction, Rabbi Kohaniu describes the abundance of spiritual life, the synagogues and seminaries, etc. in the city of Jerusalem, and on the other hand the lack and poverty in material matters.

On the last page (19) it is written: "In the evening, the group gathers at the large synagogue in the ruins of Rabbi Yehuda the Hassid and learn Mishnah for those who are absent from the group and pray for the repose of their souls...".

In the copy in front of us, on the cover of the book, there is a handwritten inscription: "belongs to the Shovavim Hevra", and "do not take out of the great synagogue in the ruins ofy RY"C...".

The book was "printed by the mashgichim of the holy group", the fourth and last one is "the Meshulach Rabbi Haim Laevi of Kovna". his name is not knowm nowdays But he was one of the seven founders of the first neighborhood outside the walls - Nachalat Shiva'a,

with Rabbi Yoel Moshe Salomon, Rabbi Yosha Rivlin and their friends, students of Rabbi Moshe Nehemiah Kohaniu, who is probably the hidden editor of the book before us.

Rabbi Haim Halevi, or as he is called by the people of Jerusalem, Rabbi Haim Kovner, after his hometown of Kovna in Lithuania, was a Meshulach for the great synagogue in the ruins of Rabbi Yehuda Hassid, and helped to build it. He was one of the leaders of the Ashkenazi community in Jerusalem .Rabbi Chaim, "the most active public businessman for the settlement" (as defined by Rabbi Pinchas Greyvski) is the one who brought the ark of the synagogue, from the city of Kharkov, as well as a large Hanukkah menorah, as high as a man's height, made of pure silver, from the city Petersburg.

2. Kuntres Takanat HaShavim, by Rabbi Chaim Yitzchak Aharon Rapaport the magid of vilkamir'. [Jerusalem, 1890].

From the introduction at the top of the book, it appears that the leaders of the Shovavim Tat group approached Rabbi Rappaport and asked him for permission to print the Kuntres for the members of the group, and he was agreed to do so. This is why the two books in front of us are bound together. Indeed, we saw another copy of a volume containing both books bound together, and this is probably how most or all of the copies of the 'Kuntres Takanat HaShavim' were bound together with the above 'Selichot'. Perhaps this is the reason why this edition was printed without a cover (and not completed in print?) because it was intended to be joined and bound with the book The first mentioned above.

1. ספר "סליחות ותפילות לשובבים ת"ת, כפי המנהג הנהוג בעיה"ק ירושלים". נדפס ע"י השתדלות המשגיחים של החבורה הקדושה, ירושלים, תרל"ד [1874]. דפוס יצחק [גאשצינני] ושותפו יעקב דוד סלאטקי.

ש. הלוי, מס' 220. נדיר מאוד. מטבע הדברים ספרי תפילה נשמרו פחות מאשר ספרים אחרים, בשל השימוש הרב בהם.

בראש הספר הקדמה ארוכה על חשיבות התפילות ב"שובבי"ם", עניין תיקון פגם הברית, וכן הלכות שונות הנוגעות בנושא חשוב זה, מאת רבי משה נחמיה כהניו (כהנוב) מחסלאוויץ, ראש ישיבת "עץ חיים". הוא גם הוסיף פירוש 'עיון תפלה' ארוך, על הסליחה 'מלאכי רחמים'.

בהקדמתו כתב הרב כהניו:

"ובפרט לעת הזאת אשר כניצוצי אור השמש בין מפלשי עב נראה לנו בכמה עניינים וכעין פתיחה מעניין הגאולה אנו רואים בימינו אלה...". בהקדמה מרתקת זו נמצא ביאור נרחב מאוד של עיה"ק ירושלים על פי תורת הסוד. בהמשך ההקדמה מתאר הרב כהניו את שפע החיים הרוחניים, בתי הכנסיות ובתי המדרשות וכו' בעיר ירושלים, ומאידך את המחסור והדלות בענייני הגשמיות.

בדף האחרון (יט) נכתב: "לעת ערב מתקבצים החבורה הק' לבית הכנסת הגדולה שבחורבה ר"י החסיד ולומדים משניות עבור הנעדרים מהחבורה ומתפללים עבור עלוי נשמותיהם...".

בעותק שלפנינו, בשער הספר, נמצא רישום בכתב יד: "שייך לח"ק שובבים ת"ת", ואין "להוציא מפתח בית הכנסת הגדולה שבחורבה רי"ח...".

הספר "נדפס על ידי השתדלות המשגיחים של החברא-קדישא", הרביעי והאחרון הוא "השד"ר מהימנא המופלג מו"ה חיים לעווי נ"י מקאוונא". שמו אינו ידוע כיום, אך הוא היה משבעת מייסדי השכונה הראשונה מחוץ לחומות 'נחלת שבעה', לצד ר' יואל משה סלומון, ר' יושעה ריבלין וחבריהם, תלמידיו של רבי משה נחמיה כהניו, שהוא כנראה העורך הנסתר של הספר שלפנינו.

ר' חיים הלוי או כפי שנקרא בפי אנשי ירושלים ר' חיים קובנר, על שם עיר מוצאו קובנא שבליטא, היה שד"ר בעד בית הכנסת הגדול שבחורבת ר' יהודה החסיד, ועזר לבניינו. היה מראשי העסקנים של העדה האשכנזית בירושלים בראשית התהוותה (יעקב גליס, 'שכונות בירושלים'). רבי חיים, "העסקן הציבורי הכי פעיל לישוב" (כהגדרת ר' פנחס גרייבסקי) הוא שהביא את ארון הקודש של בית הכנסת, מהעיר חרקוב, וכן מנורת חנוכה גדולה בגובה של קומת איש עשויה כסף טהור, מהעיר פטרבורג.

2. קונטרס תקנת השבים, מאת רבי חיים יצחק אהרן רפאפורט 'המגיד מווילקאמיר'. [ירושלים, תר"ן 1890].

מתוך ההקדמה שבראש הספר עולה כי ראשי חברת 'שובבים ת"ת' פנו אל הרב רפפורט וביקשו ממנו אישור להדפיס את קונטרסו עבור אנשי החברה, והוא נאות לכך. זו הסיבה ששני הספרים שלפנינו כרוכים יחדיו. ואכן ראינו עותק נוסף של כרך המכיל את שני הספרים הנ"ל כרוכים יחד, וכנראה שכך נכרכו רוב או כול העותקים של 'קונטרס תקנת השבים' יחד עם ה'סליחות' הנ"ל. אולי זוהי הסיבה שמהדורה זו נדפסה ללא שער (ולא נשלמה בדפוס?) בגלל שהיא יועדה להצטרף ולהיכרך עם הספר הראשון הנ"ל.
