A prospect on the Eshkol book, by the publisher and editor Shalom Elbak - thick paper - Warsaw, 1909

Following the controversy that developed around the edition of the book Ha'Eshkol published by Rabbi Auerbach, Shalom Albek began preparing a revised edition of the book 'HaEshkol', based on manuscripts that were faithful to him, with the assumption that this work is actually an abridgement of the Sefer ha'Itim, composed by the Sephardic scholar Yehuda Ben Barzilai from Barcelona.

We have before us a rare publication, by Albek, about his plan to publish 'HaEshkol'.

This edition was not printed in his lifetime and was completed by his son, Hanoch Albek.

Shalom (ben Yehezkel) Albeck (January 30, 1858 – August 8, 1920) was a scholar of Talmud and Rabbinic literature. His son was the Mishnah and Talmud scholar Prof. Hanoch Albek, a member of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. And his grandson is the scholar of the Talmud and Hebrew law Shalom (Ben Hanoch) Albek, professor emeritus at Bar-Ilan University.

בעקבות הפולמוס שהתפתח סביב מהדורת ספר 'האשכול' שהוציא הרב אויערבך, החל שלום אלבק בהכנת מהדורה מתוקנת לספר 'האשכול, הנסמכת על כתבי יד שהיו נאמנים עליו, מתוך הנחה כי חיבור זה הוא למעשה קיצור של ספר העתים שחיבר החכם הספרדי יהודה בן ברזילי מברצלונה.

לפנינו פרסום נדיר, מאת אלבק, על תוכניתו להוצאת 'האשכול'.

מהדורה זו לא נדפסה בחייו והיא נשלמה על ידי בנו, חנוך אלבק.

שלום (בן יחזקאל) אַלְבֶּק (30 בינואר 1858 – 8 באוגוסט 1920) היה חוקר תלמוד וספרות רבנית. בנו היה חוקר המשנה והתלמוד פרופ' חנוך אלבק, איש האוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים. ונכדו הוא חוקר התלמוד והמשפט העברי שלום (בן חנוך) אלבק, פרופסור אמריטוס באוניברסיטת בר-אילן.
