Spiritual life in the Warsaw community: a volume of three special books printed in Warsaw, 1860-1862
A volume of popular books printed in Warsaw in the sixties of the 19th century. One of the books is a halakhic composition, the other - a fine literary work, and the other - a Hebrew-Aramaic-Yiddish dictionary. The common denominator - the popular culture, in the sacred and the public, of the Jews of Warsaw. The volume in front of us reflects wonderfully, from all possible angles, the Jewish spirit and culture in Warsaw at that time, that of the masses of the people, of the homeowners, women and children.
The three books were printed at the printing house of the Bamberg family in Warsaw.

A literary-humorous composition, which was a resounding success, and was printed in several editions. Before us is the third edition (probably - it is revised from its predecessors). But as the volume of publication of the essay at that time, so is its rarity today -
none of its editions were seen in sales on Bidspirit!
The translation of the book into Hebrew was done by Dov Sadan, and was printed in Jerusalem in several editions.
The title page in the copy before us is
different from the title page of the copy kept in the National Library in Jerusalem. In front of us is written at the bottom the name of the publisher י' ח' ג' ב'.

A very important composition, mentioned many times in writings from that time, as well as in studies done in our generation.
The author of the story, Isaac Meir Dick, a man from Vilna, a prolific and versatile writer, was the founder of Yiddish literature during the Enlightenment period in the 19th century, and Shalom Aleichem considered him one of his literary ancestors. He was a popular historian, who described in his stories many events and episodes from the life of the Jews in Poland and especially in Lithuania. His stories are full of humor and describe the environment of the typical Jewish town. In his stories, the tendency to teach the reader about moral matters stands out.

A very rare edition of the most popular essay of its kind. The first edition was printed in 1832 and since then the book has taken its important place throughout Russia, Lithuania and Poland.
The edition in front of us is not in the national library!

B. Hebrew-Yiddish dictionary. The Hebrew words from the Bible, the Talmud and other sacred literature. At the top of the pages is written: "Gidul Banim".
C. The blessings reading of the Shema on the bed, in Hebrew and in Yiddish translation.

חיי הרוח בקהילת וורשה: כרך שלושה ספרים מיוחדים שנדפסו בוורשה, 1862-1860
כרך ספרים עממיים שנדפסו בוורשה בשנות השישים של המאה ה-19. אחד מהספרים הנו חיבור הלכתי, האחר – יצירה ספרותית משובחת, והאחר – מילון עברי-ארמי-יידישאי. המכנה המשותף – התרבות העממית, בקודש ובחול, של יהודי וורשה. הכרך שלפנינו משקף נהדר, ממכלול הזוויות האפשריות, את הרוח והתרבות היהודית בוורשה בתקופה ההיא, זו של המון העם, של בעלי הבתים, הנשים והילדים.
שלושת הספרים נדפסו בבית הדפוס של משפחת באמבערג בוורשה.

חיבור ספרותי-הומוריסטי, אשר זכה להצלחה מסחררת, ונדפס בכמה מהדורות. לפנינו המהדורה שלישית (כנראה – היא מתוקנת מקודמותיה). אך כגודל פרסומו של החיבור באותה תקופה, כך נדירותו כיום – אף אחת ממהדורותיו לא נראתה במכירות בבידספיריט!
תרגום הספר לעברית נעשה על ידי דב סדן, תחת השם: ר' שמעיה מברך המועדות, ונדפס בירושלים בכמה מהדורות.
השער בעותק שלפנינו שונה משער העותק השמור בספריה הלאומית בירושלים. לפנינו נכתב בתחתיתו שם המלבה"ד [המביא לבית הדפוס]: י' ח' ג' ב'.

חיבור חשוב מאוד, שנזכר פעמים רבות בכתבים מהתקופה ההיא, וכן במחקרים שנעשו בדורנו.
מחבר הסיפור, אייזיק מאיר דיק, איש ווילנה, סופר פורה ורב-פנים, היה ממניחי היסוד של ספרות היידיש בתקופת ההשכלה במאה הי"ט, ושלום עליכם ראה בו אחד מאבותיו הספרותיים. הוא היה היסטוריון עממי, שתיאר בסיפוריו אירועים ופרשיות רבים מחיי היהודים בפולין ובעיקר בליטא. סיפוריו מלאי הומור ומתארים את סביבת העיירה היהודית הטיפוסית. בסיפוריו בולטת המגמה ללמד את הקורא פרק בענייני מוסר.

מהדורה נדירה מאוד של החיבור הפופולרי ביותר מסוגו. המהדורה הראשונה נדפסה בתקצ"ב ומאז תפס הספר את מקומו החשוב ברחבי רוסיה, ליטא ופולין. המהדורה שלפנינו אינה נמצאת בספריה הלאומית!

הספר מכיל:
א. דברי מוסר וחינוך שיורו האבות לבניהם הקטנים.
ב. מילון עברי-יידישאי. המילים העבריות מתוך התנ"ך, התלמוד ויתר ספרות הקודש. בראש העמודים נכתב: "גידול בנים".
ג. ברכות הנהנין, וברכת המזון, קריאת שמע על המיטה, בעברית ובתרגום ליידיש.
