Rabbi Akiva Hakohein Strasser (circa 1860-1924) was Av Beis Din of Tokaj. A son of Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda Leib Hakohein Strasser and grandson of the Ksav Sofer, Rabbi Akiva studied under his venerable grandfather the Ksav Sofer and his uncle the Shevet Sofer, and son-in-law of Maharam Broide, Av Beis Din of Schossberg, he later edited and published Maharam Broide's teshovos and chiddushim as Shu”t Mahara”m Broide. True to the holy legacy of his noble ancestor, Rabbi Akiva Strasser fought valiantly to preserve authentic Torah Judaism. Essays from his prolific writings were compiled and published in Toras Avos (Brooklyn, 1990).

His son, Rabbi Mordechai Hakohein Strasser H y”d  Av Beis Din of Weg-Scalia, Slovakia, was a disciple of Rabbi Shmuel Rosenberg, Av Beis Din of Unsdorf. Rabbi Mordechai was esteemed for his brilliance and scholarship as well as his righteous, modest demeanor and regarded as one of the leading Chassidic scholars and kabbalistic geniuses in his generation. He perished in the Holocaust 1944. His chiddushim were likewise compiled and published in Toras Avos.

The present letter, replete with chiddushei Torah, seeks to resolve the Shaar Hamelech’s questions upon the Mishnah Lamelech regarding fulfilling the imperative mitzvah of eating various foods including matzah and sacrifices in an unusual manner.
