Proven Amulet!!! “Good Tidings for True Freedom Very Soon” – A Dollar from the Rebbe that Brought About Tremendous SalvationsProven Amulet!!! “Good Tidings for True Freedom Very Soon” – A Dollar from the Rebbe that Brought About Tremendous Salvations - “Good tidings for true freedom very soon.” A banknote with a face value of one U.S. dollar, given from the holy hands of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch, for that special individual – a relative of the Rebbe, a descendant of the Baal HaTanya, and one of the pillars of Orthodox Jewry [his name is withheld by the auction house]. At that time, the recipient of the banknote was confined in prison, after having been sentenced to lengthy years of imprisonment and charged with embezzlement involving an enormous sum of millions of dollars. On the banknote, the recipient wrote, for that individual, the Rebbe’s words spoken at the time it was given: “Good tidings for true freedom very soon.” A few words, yet under the circumstances in which they were spoken they take on extraordinary significance: not merely a general blessing, but an explicit blessing for “true freedom, ” with the added emphasis “very soon, ” while the recipient of the blessing himself was still sitting behind bars and, according to his sentence, still faced many more years of imprisonment. The Rebbe’s blessing was fulfilled in a wondrous manner. Despite the severe sentence, the recipient was released from prison after half of the prison term imposed upon him, and, exceptionally, the depositors’ losses were covered by the state treasury, something that did not occur in similar cases, in which the investors’ money was lost. Thus, the wording inscribed upon the banknote – “true freedom very soon” – takes on special power: not only release from prison, but freedom also from the heavy financial burden that accompanied the sentence. The banknote thus constitutes a proven amulet for freedom from all things that weigh upon a person. In Chassidic tradition, special importance has been attributed to banknotes and coins given from the hands of tzaddikim, and particularly to dollars given from the holy hand of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, which are regarded as tried and proven amulets for blessing and success. However, the banknote before us is exceptional even among these banknotes: the blessing spoken over it explicitly refers to the difficult situation of its recipient – “true freedom very soon” – and afterward the recipient indeed merited to be released to freedom after half of his prison term and to be freed from the enormous debt. In the discussion of amulets in the Babylonian Talmud (Shabbat 61b), the concept of a “proven amulet” (kame’a mumcheh) is discussed, and special importance is attributed there to an amulet that has already been established as effective. In the tradition of segulot, special virtue is therefore attributed to an amulet that has already been used and through which salvations have been effected. Before us is an extraordinary “proven amulet” – a dollar from the holy hands of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, bearing his explicit blessing for a man who was at that very time confined in prison: “Good tidings for true freedom very soon.” A blessing spoken at a time of distress, inscribed upon the banknote in real time, and afterward fulfilled in a wondrous manner – through the recipient’s freedom and the removal of the heavy fine from upon him. A banknote of freedom, blessing, and salvation. Good condition. Upon request, a certificate attesting to the authenticity of the banknote will be provided, signed by the recipient’s son, who, like his distinguished late father, is also a descendant of the Baal HaTanya.
