Riva Di Trento, [1559]. Ashkenazi glosses from the period of the printing.
Sefer Mordechai, piskei halachot by Rabbi Mordechai the son of Rabbi Hillel, the student of the Maharam M’Rottenburg. Riva Di Trento, [1559]. Ashkenazi handwritten glosses from the period when the sefer was printed. Leaves 2–173 leaves [out of 192 leaves, and missing a title page] 31 cm. In the margins of the tractates Babba Kama, Babba Metzia and Babba Batra of the Mordechai and similarly the glosses of Mordechai at the end, there are many comments, additions, and handwritten corrections, that were copied from a manuscript that he had, and certainly one can define these tractates as ‘proofread Mordechai’. As is known, Sefer Hamordechai was a foundational sefer of piskei din in the Ashkenaz regions that was copied and transferred from person to person many times, and the number of versions and omissions were great, particularly in the printed Sifrei Mordechai. Therefore great importance is attached to proofread versions like this. The glosses are in Ashkenazi handwriting from the period of the printing. Aside from these corrections glosses, there are important scholarly glosses. At the beginning of the sefer are bound [8] leaves from the work ‘Shaarei Shavuot’ by the grandson of the Rif from ‘Rav Alfes’ [Riva Di Trento 1558]. In the margins of the first leaf is a long handwritten comment. New binding. Age stains. A few moth holes in the margins. Tears with a little loss of text on the last three leaves. Generally in good-very good condition
