Set of 'Tikkun Sofrim' Chumashim. Amsterdam, 1769. Magnificent Set.
Tikkun Sofrim - Chamishah Chumshei Torah, with the five scrolls. "Which Rabbi Itzak Premshlau, ztz"l of Prague ... toiled over and brought to print, with the addition of accurate proofreading and several virtues. Five volumes.
The chumashim were written with great precision: lacks and redundancies [חסירות ויתירות], openings and closures [פתוחות וסתומות], text as read vs text as written [קרי וכתיב], penultimate and ultimate stresses
[מלעיל ומלרע], and much more. Per the Bomberg prints and other early prints. They were intended for proofreading and writing Torah scrolls, and to teach Torah readers the correct grammar.
Before us is a beautiful and elegant edition of the Tikkun Sofrim chumash. This edition merited approbations from the rabbis of Amsterdam: Rabbi Shlomo Shalem and Rabbi Shaul Lowenstam. At the beginning of Chumash Bereishit, there is a lengthy foreword by the printer, which discusses the praises of this edition. The verseֲ "תורת י-הוה תמימה” appears at the tops of the title pages.
