A Sermon by the Noda BiYehuda and Additional Torah Novellae – Bohemia, Late 18th Century - A handwritten notebook containing a transcription of a sermon by the Noda BiYehuda, along with additional Torah novellae. Bohemia, late 18th century. At the beginning of the sermon, the following inscription appears: ”From the Gaon, Rabbi Y.L. [Yechezkel Landau], Av Beit Din of the holy community of Prague.” This sermon was subsequently published, with additions and textual variations, in Doresh LeTzion, Sermon 12, where it is stated that the Noda BiYehuda delivered the sermon in Yampol in 1750. At the beginning of another sermon, the following heading appears: ”For Rosh Hashanah, by Rabbi Yechezkel Landau, may his light shine.” However, within the sermon itself, the Noda BiYehuda is referred to in the third person (”It is stated in the book of the aforementioned Gaon, entitled Noda BiYehuda”). It is therefore evident that the sermon itself was not composed by him. We have not found any evidence that it was ever published. Additional Torah novellae on Parashat Bereishit, Shavuot, and other subjects appear at the beginning and end of the notebook. [24] written pages (12 leaves). 22.5 cm. Good condition. Minor wear and typical stains. This manuscript was preserved among a collection of manuscripts containing transcriptions of Torah novellae by Rabbi Chaim Deutschmann, Av Beit Din of Köllin.
