A silver half shekel of Tyre
Obv.: Portrait of Melqarth, the Phoenician Hercules facing right. Rev.: Eagle facing left surrounded by Greek inscription ΤΥΡΟΥ ІEPA[Σ] [KAY] [ΑΣΥ]ΛΟΥ (of Tyre the holy and city of refuge. In field, the date POΒ (46/7 C.E) on left; on right, KP (Jerusalem struck?), club of Hercules and monogram. The Tyrian sheqel and half sheqel were the coins with which one paid the annual Temple tax of half a sheqel. 46/7C.E. 5.54 grams, 20 mm, axis 12.
