Photo Album of the First Days of the Settlement, Including Two Photographs by Schweig, 1944.
Large, impressive photo album gifted to the manager of the department of public works in Jerusalem, Yitzchak Melamed. Also includes 4 sketches.
The photographs include 20 photos of workers in Melamed's department in various locations, with their names in English, 2 from Acre and Jerusalem by photographer Shmuel Yosef Schweig, and 4 color sketches.
Yitzchak Melamed (1900-1968) was born in Odessa, and immigrated to Israel at the age of 11. He worked as a Mandate government clerk, reaching the position of senior clerk among the local Jews, when he served as manager of public works and also as deputy manager of of the treasury. He received the title "Member of the Order of the British Empire" from King George VI. He passed away in Jerusalem.
