Affectionate Letter from the Gaon Rabbi Shneur Kotler to the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Epstein. Lakewood, 1952
Fascinating personal letter handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Shneur Kotler, later rosh yeshivah of Lakewood. The letter was sent to the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Epstein, one of the leading disciples of his father and grandfather - the gaon Rabbi Aharon Kotler and the Even HaAzel. Lakewood, Erev Pesach, after midday.
This affectionate letter between two geonei olam discusses their private lives, how their families are doing, the personal health and their feelings, "How are you doing and how are you feeling, your mood, etc., etc., etc., (I saw what [you] were talking about, because in Novardok, when they asked 'Vus machstu' what they meant was spirituality. Here, it means both aspects, as well as one's general feeling and puts it all together)"Rav Shneur continues, telling the addressee, "There's nothing new here. I am learning, Baruch Hashem, and all is well. The little ones [the gaon Rabbi Malkiel was born a year earlier] are progressing nicely ... Have you visited Grandfather, shlit"a? [the author of Even HaAzel]." Rabbi Shneur concludes his letter, "I haven't had the opportunity to write until the eve of the holiday, after chatzot ... In friendship, Shneur."
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for brief biographies of the gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Shneur Kotler and the addressee, Rabbi Yitzchak HaLevi Epstein.
