Pair of Letters from Rabbi Moshe Tzvi Neryah, "Patriarch of the Knitted Kippahs." Not Printed

Two historic letters from the gaon Rabbi Moshe Tzvi Neryah, head of the Bnei Akiva yeshivahs, known as "Patriarch of the Generation of Knitted Kippahs." The letters bear important Torah and biographic content about leaders of the nation - the chief rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook, and the mussar gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Hutner. Kfar HaRoeh, 1980s. Both letters are addressed to the gaon Rabbi Matityahu Greenblatt of the United States, and include the rabbi's Torah and unknown stories.

  • The first letter was sent on the eve of Passover. It contains sensational and unfamiliar details about the relationship between the Zionist yeshivahs: "The other side has begun to distance themselves and pull away from the kippot serugot. There are now those there who understand that they caused themselves damage ... Especially when the relationship to settling the Land of Israel changed there in general. This is a big basis of our education - v'shavu banim ligevulam" It also discusses '"HaChibur HaKattan" (by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook) with things that are not the case ... not everything that is said - and certainly at a time of anger - is appropriate to publicize. I think that the rabbi z"l would have regretted publishing these things in his lifetime. He also mentions there the admiration the mussar gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Hutner had for Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook: "He [Rabbi Hutner] once said " I was once by the rabbi, under his tallit kattan."
  • The second letter was sent on 27 Shevat 1986. It discusses printing Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook's renowned sefer, "Orot HaEmunah." It includes important details about the sefer, the publisher, and more. Inter alia, Rabbi Neryah quotes Rabbi Hutner's interesting (Yiddish) expression: "In a discussion with me, the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Hutner, z"l, said, 'If not for my meeting with the rabbi, I would be lacking 50% of who I am!" After his signature, Rabbi Neryah adds an interesting Torah thought (more current than ever) from Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook with respect to the differences between the judicial systems in Israel and other countries.
