Opening ceremony of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem on 1.4.1925. Lord Balfour’s famous speech. Guests of honor included Rabbi Kook, Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yaakov Meir, Chaim Nachman Bialik, Chaim Weizmann, Sokolov and others. Colored, artistic print – made to look handmade. Thick cardboard. 27×60 cm. The picture was printed with a special technique that gives the appearance of brushstrokes. The painting was originally made by Jewish-Polish artist Leopold Pilichowski (whose self-portrait appears in the picture). Due to the large size, 2.5 x5 meters, it took Pilichowski over two years to make the original. This artistic print was made in England by the publisher of the King and Queen: Raphael Tuck & Sons, apparently right after the painting was made. Details about the picture are printed on the back in Engish. Small blemishes and light rubbing – primarily to the border. Fine condition.
