The Great Gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, Twelve Scholarly Inquiries Written on Aerograms Abroad, Extremely Rare
Two letters on aerograms written by the great gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky with twelve responsa to scholarly inquiries on various topics in halachah 1998.
The first question was asked regarding the need for an expert beit din for the mitzvah of chalitzah, and he replied: "Also regarding chalitzah, they must be fitting, and if there is a disagreement, they will decide (and with respect to what you asked, it has already been decided ...) The second question also deals with expert adjudicators, and to it the gaon responded: "His intent is expert adjudicators." The third question is not detailed by the writer, the gaon answered: "It is to be interpreted as is when there is a disagreement." The fourth question deals with the give-and-take on (Tractate) Sanhedrin 101, to which the gaon responded:"Even if he would have brought the disagreement, the decision would be according to the majority." The fifth inquiry is not detailed by the writer, the gaon responds: "It is incorrect that if it was mentioned without attribution that the most are according to Rabbi Meir." In responsa 6-7 [not detailed by the writer] the gaon replies "Your question is not comprehensible." The eighth question deals with the matter of an emissary for a transgression, to which the gaon responds: "The matter of application of status as emissary does not apply, the issue is specifically when he carries out the matter on his own."
Four more responsa [without the inquiries] appear in the second letter:
"They do not join at all, but testify due to doubt one way or the other." "He did not transfer them until after the deed of the Givonim, as stated in the verse, and then it is possible that they truly eulogized him." "I didn't understand your question, why the report?" "Try to come to the Land of Israel."
The inquirer added some of the questions he sent to Rabbi Chaim on one of the aerograms after he received Rabbi Chaim's responsa.
Letters from Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky on aerograms are extremely uncommon.
