Letter from Rabbi Shmuel HaLevi Wosner
Interesting letter signed by Rabbi Shmuel HaLevi Wosner from 18 Av 1966 in which he turns to a former student from Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin with a request to support the yeshiva which has become materially depleted.
The rabbi apologizes that 'Much to our regret, the situation has reached the point that we need those closest and most loyal to us; we ask our brothers to extricate us first and foremost, to maintain this place of Torah and awe. The rabbi continues, explaining the importance of the yeshiva: 'It is permissible to write the truth, and there is no exaggeration in the matter - the genuine fact that the yeshiva is one of the largest anywhere, a place where the Torah does not stop day or night, by students who are full of awe, complete and scholarly ...' The gaon requests that he join as a steady member giving monthly support to the yeshiva in order to remove it from its present sad situation. Rabbi Shmuel Wosner's signature and that of the yeshiva administrator are in the margins of the letter.
The great gaon Rabbi Shmuel HaLevi Wosner [1913-2015], author of Shevet HaLevi, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin in Bnei Brak, and among the greatest halachic adjudicators of our generation.
