Bronze Plaque in the Wake of the Events of Kristallnacht. 1939
Bronze plaque with a relief of Jeremiah and an angel lamenting over a book with 1938 inscribed on its leaves, hinting to the Kristallnacht riots in Germany in 1938. "In the union of faiths we are fortified to serve mankind" is inscribed on the reverse, along with three hands holding a torch, referring to the three major religions. The plaque was made in response to the events of Kristallnacht in Germany, and with the artist's hope that the nations would unite against the Nazis. Signed and dated by the artist, Louis Rosenthal, 1939.
Size: 9x5.8 cm.
Background: Bronze plaque showing the prophet Jeremiah's face beside a crying angel with an open book displaying the year 1938.
Condition: Very fine.
