Exceptionally Beautiful: Siddur of Mori Salem Shemen of Sana'a. Thick Volume with Elegant Antique Leather Binding
Manuscript of rare beauty: Tiklal: Thick Yemenite prayer book with prayers for the whole year. Including instructions and halachahs. Beautiful professional script. Full vowelization. The titles are enlarged and in bold. [Sana'a, 19th century.]
Personal siddur of Mori Shalom (Salem) Shemen, one of the leading rabbis of Sana'a, Yemen, second-in-command at the general yeshivah of Sana'a, and author of the work Pach HaShemen on Shulchan Aruch. Rabbi Amram Korach wrote about him (Sa'arat Teiman p. 49): Treasure trove of Tana"ch, Mishnah, Talmud and Aggadah ... the generations' rabbis recognized the value of his wisdom, and the fact that his word is authoritative. He was very, very humble, and even treated the masses with respect, comparing his opinion to everyone else's.
On the first page, his signature in red ink.
Manuscript of rare beauty and completeness including prayers for the entire annual cycle, with nothing lacking. Prayers for weekdays, Shabbat, Rosh Chodesh, the three pilgrimage festivals, fasts, Chanukah, Purim, Selichot, Yamim Nora'im, tikkunim, and more. The manuscript is quite thick at 5 cm. It is bound in a magnificent antique Yemenite leather binding, with imprints. Including two functioning clasps.
