Letter from the Ga'ava"d of Jerusalem, the Gaon Rabbi Reuven Zelig Bengis, Author of L'Flagot Reuven. Kalvarye, 1926

Interesting letter handwritten and signed by the ga'ava"d of Jerusalem, the gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, when he was appointed av beit din of Kalvarye, Lithuania. Kalvarye, 1926 [תרומ"ם].

The letter was sent to Jerusalem, where Rabbi Bengis would serve as ga'ava"d many years later, to the editorial board of the important Torah journal,  Sha'arei Tziyon, Rabbi Shlomo Blazer (son of the mussar personality Rabbi Itzaleh Blazer), and Rabbi Aharon Yitzchak Zaslansky. This journal was considered the most significant Torah organ for many years. Divrei Torah and chiddushim by leading rabbis from Jerusalem and elsewhere were published there. This letter discusses Torah insights published there occasionally by Rabbi Bengis in the monthly journal. The other side of the leaf bears greetings to Jerusalem rabbis from Rabbi Bengis, first on the list being "the true gaon, the wonder of the generation ... the honorable Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook, shlit"a."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis.

[2] pp, 22x9 cm each page. Entirely handwritten and signed by Rabbi Bengis, with his official stamp.
