Shefa Tal by Rabbi Shabtai Segal Horowitz. Frankfurt am Main, 1719. Kabbalistic Illustrations
Sefer Shefa Tal - key to the secrets of Kabbalistic wisdom, including Sefer Iggeret HaTa'amim, and specifically, mishnayot from Sefer Yetzirah and Ma'amarei Zohar V'Tikkunim. Most of the content is based on Mahara"m Cordovero. Authored by Rabbi Shabtai Segal Horowitz of Prague. Frankfurt am Main, 1719; Ben-Ya'akov erroneously records: 1714, but the end of the printer's foreword states: 1719.
Second, important edition of this fundamental work of Kabbalah, with many Kabbalistic illustrations. The sefer opens with a lengthy introduction entitled "Ben Meah Shanah" which discusses metaphysical subjects, such as grasping the concepts of G-dliness, the worlds, man, exile and redemption. With a "Printer's Foreword" special to this edition.
Printer's device printed at the top of the title page: Hermes-Mercurius in a cape and a cap, with short wings on his ankles, holding a caduceus;. This is the device of printer Johann Kellner, although the preceding title page states that it was printed by R' Shimon Tirer Katz, so it was therefore likely actually printed by Kellner. Refer to Yitzchak Yudlov, Diglei Madpisim, Jerusalem, 1999, p. 64.
[2], 74, 76-80 leaf. 35 cm. Thick, high-quality paper. Antique wooden binding.
Fine condition. Minimal aging stains and wear. The title page and the following leaf are detached.
